8:00 – 8:45pm Providing Trauma Informed Primary Care
Speakers: Dr. Sheryl Spithoff and/or Ms. Leslie Molnar
Objectives:
1. Understand the link between trauma and mental health problems/ substance use disorders
2. Screen appropriately for interpersonal trauma
3. Find trauma therapy resources in their own community
Dr. Sheryl Spithoff is a family physician and addiction medicine physician at Women’s College Hospital and a lecturer at the University of Toronto. She is currently completing her masters and has an appointment at Women’s College Hospital Research Institute. Her research interests include the primary care management of addictions, equitable access to care, and health policy.
Ms. Leslie Molnar BSW, MSW, RSW, has been working as a clinical social worker/psychotherapist at Women’s College Hospital since 2011 having graduated with her MSW degree from the University of Toronto in 2010. She works in the General Psychiatry/Mental Health in Medicine program. This is aprogram that offers outpatient assessment to women and men with a broad spectrum of mental health issues and disorders.
8:45 – 9:30pm Current & Upcoming Potential Changes to Regulation
Speaker: Ms. Ada Maxwell-Alleyne
Objectives:
1. Review of regulations regarding the CPSO’s policy on sexual abuse
2. Possible changes to the complaint process
3. Accountability and changes to Regulated Health Professionals Act
Ms. Ada Maxwell-Alleyne, Acting Director of Health Policy at the Ontario Medical Association. At the OMA, Ms. Maxwell-Alleyne provides advice to the organization and physicians on regulatory and legislative issues, scopes of practice and interprofessional care. Ms. Maxwell-Alleyne is a lawyer by training and before joining the OMA she worked at a large Toronto law firm where she focused on health law and professional liability. She holds degrees from Harvard University, University of Toronto and Dalhousie University.
